Rwanda: TUBITEHO INITIATIVE
Children with disabilities are one of the most marginalized and excluded groups in society.
Estimates suggest that there are at least 93 million children with disabilities in the world, but numbers could be much higher. They are often likely to be among the poorest members of the population. They are less likely to attend school, access medical services, or have their voices heard in society. Their disabilities also place them at a higher risk of physical abuse, and often exclude them from receiving proper nutrition or humanitarian assistance in emergencies.
After realizing that there are families with children with disabilities living in extreme conditions, the NGO “TUBITEHO INITIATIVE (TI)” is determined to make these families out of poverty and to have a better life for their children. In Huye district, Maraba sector, there are many families with children with disabilities. One of them lives in extreme poverty and their children are often marginalized. In search of a way to survive, TI thought of raising them goats. During this event, 14 families have been able to get goat for breeding.
With the mission of contributing to the development of the well-being of vulnerable people in particular the children with disabilities and their families through advocacy and support, TI and its partners are committed to helping these families learn and train them in caring for children with disabilities and their rights.
As it is one of the objectives of “TUBITEHO INITIATIVE” to change the mentality of Rwandan society towards children with disabilities, but also to help their families to get out of the misery of poverty and loneliness, this event was intended to provide small livestock to the 14 families. This small livestock will improve the living conditions of these families as those who have benefited from this help have confirmed it.
